how long does it usually take for a pair of new rats to get used to you etc?
i have had 2 new rats for 5 days now and they both are nice but aren’t fully confident around me they will let me pick them up but they still wriggle a lot and seem to want to move a lot.they let me stroke them whilst in their cage and i still sit next to the cage while i hold them.
they are both males and they are both about 8 weeks old. Alfie is white with black hood markings and Buster is black with a white belly.
Alfie did sit on my lap for about 10 minutes the other day but buster will let me hold him for about a minute or 2 tops as he will do nothing but wriggle. i pick them up about 3 times a day maybe 4.
i was just wondering roughly how long it normally takes for them to calm down and get used to you and basiccally like my brothers old rat which used to sit on his shoulder when he was walking around the house.
rats are very curious animals
they wont sit still because they would rather be running around and adventuring
as for my rats, it took them about a week to get used to me and not be scared when i picked them up
just sit on the couch and watch tv and let them run around (on you and the couch)
thats what i did with mine
i think it helps them establish trust with you
as for resting on your shoulder it shouldnt take long all
i think it helps if you have long hair or a sweatshirt or something….they like to nest…..mine love my hoodie
